Syracuse Defeats Rutgers in BIG EAST Quarterfinals, 81-57

The Orange (25-6), who have not won the tournament crown since 1992, will face defending champion Connecticut in Friday's semifinals.
Warrick, who also grabbed 13 rebounds, has averaged nearly 30 points over his past four games and joined Lawrence Moten, Derrick Coleman, John Wallace and Sherman Douglas in the 2,000-point club. After scoring 10 of Syracuse's first 14 points, Warrick reached the milestone when he followed up a miss by Josh Pace with 4:26 to go in the first half. The follow was part of an 18-3 run that gave the Orange a 47-22 lead at the break.
The Scarlet Knights made just three of their first 15 shots and ended the half shooting 23 percent (7-of-30) from the floor. Sophomore guard Quincy Douby, who had been averaging 15 points, was 2-of-11 in the first 20 minutes but responded with nine of his 14 points in the end of the stanza.
Syracuse guard Gerry McNamara made 6-of-8 3-pointers, four in the second half, and finished with 25 points for Syracuse, which had a 43-32 rebounding edge to help give coach Jim Boeheim his 701st victory in 29 seasons.
Douby was the only Rutgers player in double figures with 14 points, as the Scarlet Knights ended with a 10-19 mark. They were 20-13 last season and reached the final of the National Invitation Tournament. Senior co-captain Ricky Shields scored nine points, while Ollie Bailey addded 8 points. Sophomore center Byron Joynes had anoher productive day with 11 rebounds to go along with five points. Senior guard Juel Wiggan ended his Rutgers career with a seven-point, two-rebound effort.

Senior guard Ricky Shields ended his 121-game Rutgers career in the quarterfinal round of the BIG EAST Championship against Syracuse. He ends his stellar RU career painted throughout the school's record books. Shields finished among the top-20 all-time in 10 statistical categories and the top-35 all-time in two others. WIGGAN ENDS CAREER AMONG SCHOOL LEADERS IN ASSISTS AND STEALS
Senior guard Juel Wiggan ended his career among the Rutgers top-20 all-time in assist and rebounds. He ends his 121-game RU career with 234 assists to rank 20th and 107 steals to tie for 18th on the RU all-time list.
DOUBY MOVES UP AMONG SCHOOL THREE-POINT LEADERS
Sophomore guard Quincy Douby has made 135 three pointers out of 357 attempts through two seasons with the Scarlet Knights He ranks seventh all-time on both the school's three-point field goals made and attempted lists through the first 62 games of his RU career.
JOYNES CLEANS UP THE CLASS ONCE AGAIN
Sophomore center Byron Joynes registered 11 rebounds against Syracuse in the quarterfinal round of the BIG EAST Championship. It marked the fourth time this season and second in the last four games he has recorded at least 10 rebounds. Joynes had at least five rebounds in each of his final five games of the season. He averaged 9.0 rebounds during that stretch.
