Julian Hayes' Texas Bowl Journal
Dec 30 | Football
Rutgers freshman wide receiver Julian Hayes chronicles the Scarlet Knights' trip to the Texas Bowl, reporting each day on the team's daily activities in Houston leading up the inaugural Texas Bowl vs. Kansas State on Dec. 28 at Reliant Stadium.
I know I signed off on Wednesday evening, but I wanted to check in one last time after last night's incredible game. I hope you were there because it was something I will never forget. The whole trip is all I could've asked for.
Yesterday during the day, despite the entire hotel cheering in anticipation of the game, we stayed focused and kept chopping. When we got the stadium and saw all the fanfare, all I could think about was how much I wanted to play in the game. I knew I was redshirting though so I could only show my support on the sidelines.
I watched every play from the sidelines and cheered on my teammates. Mike Teel and Tim Brown connected on some nice plays early on and we kept chopping throughout the rest of the game. When Quintero Frierson intercepted that pass and returned it to the house on the first play of the second half we were going nuts.
As the time ticked down and we rushed the field and doused Coach Schiano it was something I will never forget. The whole experience was special. In the locker room, Coach Schiano introduced the Governor of New Jersey Jon Corzine and State Senate President Richard Codey and each one got up to say a few words. After Coach Schiano spoke to us he handed it over to Eric Foster for one final chant. We enjoyed it!
At the end of our time in the locker room when the media came in, a lot of the guys were having their teammates sign their game jersey. It was cool to see that.
I am still in awe of everything. We are about to head to the airport to return home to New Jersey for the off-season, but all I can say is I can't
wait for next year.
Go Rutgers!
