Winston Finishes Fourth In Midlands Tournament

CHICAGO, Ill. – Freshman Scott Winston (Jackson, N.J.) finished in fourth-place at 157-pounds in the Midlands Tournament, held Dec. 29-30 on the campus of Northwestern University in Chicago, Ill. RU finished in a tie for 23rd-place out of 48 teams with 21.5 points.
Winston finished one bout shy of the quarterfinals at 157, falling to Emmanuel Brooks of Missouri. In the wrestleback, the freshman won six matches to reach the third-place championship, falling to Missouri’s Michael Chandler. Seniors Matt Pletcher (Eastampton, N.J.) at 165 and Lamar Brown (Red Bank, N.J.) unattached at 197 each finished just shy of the consolation quarterfinals.
Other Scarlet Knights competing in the tournament include freshmen Joey Langel (Howell, N.J.) and Trevor Melde (Hewitt, N.J.), competing unattached at 125 and 141, respectively.
RU returns to action on Friday, Jan. 9, when it takes on EIWA conference opponent Brown in Providence, R.I.
