Rice, O'Hara Named to 2010 Pro Bowl in Miami

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (December 29, 2009) – Former Rutgers standouts Ray Rice and Shaun O’Hara were selected to the 2010 NFL Pro Bowl Tuesday evening, the NFL announced. Rice, in just his second year in the NFL, earned his first Pro Bowl invitation while O’Hara was selected to the Pro Bowl for the second consecutive season.
The Pro Bowl will take place Sunday, January 31 from Land Shark Stadium in Miami.
Rice was one of five Ravens to earn the honor while O’Hara was the only Giant selected to the squad.
Rice is earning a reputation as one of the league’s most explosive threats. With one game left in the regular season, Rice is second among all ball carriers with 1,952 total yards from scrimmage. He leads the Ravens with 1,269 rushing yards (5.3 average per carry) and has 74 receptions for 683 yards.
Rice also owns eight combined touchdowns.
“This is such an honor,” Rice told BaltimoreRavens.com. “Even though I’m going as an individual, I consider this a team award. I want to thank all my teammates and coaches who have made this possible. Growing up, I dreamed of playing in the NFL, but making the Pro Bowl is surreal.
“I’ve always played the game in hopes of earning other people’s respect, and knowing that the fans, coaches and players voted for me is humbling. I promise to represent the Ravens organization and City of Baltimore by continuing to do nothing but my best.”
O'Hara is the first Giant to be voted to back-to-back Pro Bowls since Tiki Barber and Jeremy Shockey in 2005-06. He is the first Giants offensive lineman to go in consecutive seasons since guard Ron Stone in 2000 and 2001 and the team's first center since Bart Oates in 1990 and 1991.
"To be going back again, I am just very blessed and I can't help but think that this reflects more on my unit and the guys around me than me," O'Hara told Giants.com. "I'm excited about it. It's a little excitement in an otherwise sad 48 hours."
The Giants were eliminated from playoff contention after their 41-9 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
"As an offensive lineman, our mentality is you attach your self-worth to the team," O'Hara said. "When you're having an up and down season as a team and you start to get disappointed as a team, you sometimes relay that to yourself. But after last year it was great. I was very excited to participate in it and be acknowledged."
