Rutgers Accepts Bid to St. Petersburg Bowl

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (December 6, 2009) - For the first time in school history, Rutgers will appear in a bowl game for the fifth consecutive season as the Scarlet Knights officially accepted a bid to the St. Petersburg Bowl on December 19 versus UCF of Conference USA. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. at Tropicana Field.

ESPN will televise the St. Petersburg Bowl in HD to a national audience. It marks Rutgers' seventh appearance on ESPN or ESPN2 in 2009.

The Scarlet Knights are just one of nine teams from a BCS conference to win a bowl game in each of the previous three seasons. In total, Rutgers is one of 30 teams nationally to play in five consecutive bowls, including one of 23 teams from a BCS conference to appear in five straight bowl games.

Rutgers and UCF will meet for the first time in the St. Petersburg Bowl. The game versus UCF marks the second Conference USA opponent Rutgers will face on the gridiron. Rutgers has also played C-USA member Tulane four times in school history.

Tickets for the St. Petersburg Bowl are available online, by phone (1-866-455-GORU) and in-person at the Rutgers Ticket Office during normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.). Tickets are priced at $30. Travel information will be available soon at RutgersBowl.com.
