Three Scarlet Knights Named to All-BIG EAST Football Teams

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (December 9, 2009) – Three members of the Rutgers football squad collected All-BIG EAST honors, the conference office announced Wednesday. Senior CB Devin McCourty (Nanuet, N.Y.) and junior OT Anthony Davis (Piscataway, N.J.) were named to the ALL-BIG EAST first team while senior WR Tim Brown (Miami, Fla.) was an All-BIG EAST second team selection.
McCourty earned All-BIG EAST honors for the first time in his career as he leads the BIG EAST’s top defensive unit with 78 tackles in 12 starts this season. Also an exceptional special teams performer, McCourty has blocked three of his seven career kicks in 2009 and also returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown in the win at Connecticut earlier in the season.
Davis earned first-team accolades for the first time in his career after being named to the all-conference second team a season ago. The Piscataway native started 11 of 12 games at left tackle for the Scarlet Knights in 2009.
Brown collected all-league second-team accolades for the first time after his most productive season yet “On the Banks.” Brown, who ranks first in school history in career touchdown receptions (19) and fifth in career receiving yards (2,158), led Rutgers and was among the BIG EAST leaders in receptions (51) and receiving yards (1,051). He is the fourth player in school history to reach the 1,000-yard plateau receiving in a season.
Rutgers closes out the 2009 season Saturday, December 19 in the St. Petersburg Bowl vs. UCF. The Scarlet Knights look to win their fourth straight bowl as Rutgers plays in its fifth consecutive bowl for the first time in school history. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. with live television coverage on ESPN.
