
11 Rutgers Gymnasts Earn Scholastic All-American Honors

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Aug. 19, 2010) – Eleven members of the Rutgers gymnastics team earned Scholastic All-American Honors by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches. The Scarlet Knights also finished the 2009-10 academic year with a team grade point average of 3.267, which ranked among the top 50 in the nation.
“We are extremely proud of what this team has been able to accomplish both in the classroom and in competition,” said head gymnastics coach Chrystal Chollet-Norton. “The girls have always worked extremely hard in everything they do and are very deserving of this prestigious honor.”
Graduate Laura Sevarino (Cheshire, Conn.) led the Scarlet Knights with a 3.98 GPA in Exercise Science and Sports Studies, while senior Brooke Schwamburger (Powell, Ohio) posted a 3.96 GPA in Psychology, junior Stacy Ruderman (Cherry Hill, N.J.) earned a 3.95 GPA in Exercise Science and Sports Studies, and junior Jessica Kerley (Maplewood, N.J.) recorded a 3.90 GPA in Women & Gender Studies
Sophomore Emma-Rose Trentacosti (Ridgefield Park, N.J.) earned a 3.87 GPA in her first academic year “On the Banks” and senior Sara Woodward (Tallahassee, Fla.) had a 3.83 GPA in Exercise Science and Sports Studies.
In her first year, Madeline Meyer (Darien, Ill.) posted a 3.66 GPA, while junior Katelynn Raymond (Burlington, N.J.) recorded a 3.61 GPA in Exercise Science and Sports Studies.
Junior Nicole Schwartz (Somerset, N.J.) earned a 3.59 GPA in Exercise Science and Sports Studies, while junior Alexandra Belvis (Addison, Ill.) owned a 3.55 GPA in Visual Arts and senior Erica Gerlach (Papillion, Neb.) earned a 3.50 GPA in Civil Engineering.
All 11 Scarlet Knights also earned East Atlantic Gymnastics League Academic Honors last season.
Rutgers completed a banner season last year in which 10 Scarlet Knights were named USA Gymnastics All-Americans and 18 RU gymnastics student-athletes were named to the EAGL All-Academic Team including 10 USA Gymnastics Scholar Athletes. Rutgers advanced to the finals at the USAG Collegiate National Championships and finished fourth overall at Nationals for its best finish since 2005. During the year, RU posted its highest team score since 2005 with a 192.675 in a home meet against Towson, Bridgeport and Yale.
