
Johnson Collects another Freshman All-America Honor

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (December 14, 2011) - Rutgers true freshman offensive tackle Kaleb Johnson (Jacksonville, Fla.) was named a Third Team Freshman All-America by Phil Steele Wednesday. Earlier in the week, Rivals.com named Johnson a Second Team Freshman All-American. Johnson started all 10 games he played in this season at right tackle for the Scarlet Knights.
He is the first Rutgers offensive lineman to earn Freshman All-America honors since current San Francisco 49ers starting RT Anthony Davis in 2007. Davis was a first round draft pick of the 49ers in the 2010 NFL Draft.
Johnson came to Rutgers from Edward H. White High School in Jacksonville. After not playing in the first two games of the season, Johnson started 10 consecutive to close out the season at right tackle for the Scarlet Knights.
Phil Steele also named his 2011 All-BIG EAST Team and 12 Scarlet Knights were named to the three teams. On Steele's All-BIG EAST First Team, junior wide receiver Mohamed Sanu (South Brunswick, N.J.), junior linebacker Khaseem Greene (Elizabeth, N.J.) and junior strong safety Duron Harmon (Magnolia, Del.) were selected.
On Steele's All-BIG EAST Second Team, senior offensive guard Art Forst (Manasquan, N.J.), sophomore cornerback Logan Ryan (Berlin, N.J.) and sophomore kick returner Jeremy Deering (Tampa, Fla.) were honored.
On the All-BIG EAST Third Team, Steele tabbed redshirt freshman running back Jawan Jamison (Starke, Fla.), senior offensive guard Desmond Wynn (Bear, Del.), junior defensive tackle Scott Vallone (Central Islip, N.Y.), senior defensive tackle Justin Francis (Opa-Locka, Fla.), junior linebacker Steve Beauharnais (Saddle Brook, N.J.) and junior punter Justin Doerner (Redondo Beach, Calif.).
Rutgers closes out the 2011 season Friday, December 30 in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl vs. Iowa State. Kickoff from Yankee Stadium is set for 3:30 p.m. on ESPN. Rutgers fans are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets through RU for the best pricing options available for the game.
