Kroft Earns All-America Status

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Dec. 17, 2013) – Rutgers sophomore tight end Tyler Kroft (Downingtown, Pa.) has been named Honorable Mention All-America by SI.com, the website announced today. Kroft becomes the first RU tight end to earn All-America honors since consensus first team All-America Marco Battaglia in 1995.
Already named First Team All-American Athletic Conference, Kroft was the only Scarlet Knight to record a reception in all 12 regular season games. His team-leading 40 catches netted him 530 yards and four touchdowns, including scores in three consecutive games. Kroft registered career-highs with 133 yards and six receptions in the win over Arkansas to earn John Mackey National Tight End of the Week honors. The sophomore had a high of eight catches in a game at UCF.
Kroft is the fourth tight end in program history to earn All-America status, joining Battaglia (1994-95), Alan Andrews (1984) and Larry Christoff (1972). In addition, he is the second Rutgers national honoree this season, as redshirt freshman Steve Longa (Saddle Brook, N.J.) was named to the Sporting News Freshman All-America First Team last week.
Rutgers finishes the 2013 season with its eighth bowl appearance in the last nine years at the New Era Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium. Kickoff between Rutgers and Notre Dame is set for Saturday, December 28 at noon on ESPN.
