Ranked Scarlet Knights - Nov. 18

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Five members of the Rutgers wrestling team were ranked this week by Intermat, The Open Mat or WIN Magazine.
Redshirt junior Anthony Perrotti (Roseland, N.J.) continues to lead all Scarlet Knights in the three rankings and is No. 5/4/6, respectively, at 157 pounds. Perrotti improved to 4-0 on the season with a convincing 9-2 decision against Hofstra's Jahlani Callender Sunday in a 33-6 RU win.
Redshirt junior 285-pounder Billy Smith (Wantage, N.J.) earned a No. 8/7/10 tab from the three polls. He is 3-0 to start the season and moved up a spot to No. 7 in The Open Mat rankings after an idle weekend.
Redshirt freshman 141-pounder Anthony Ashnault (South Plainfield, N.J.) continued his ascension in the national rankings following a thrilling come-from-behind win against then No. 18/16/NR Jamel Hudson (Hofstra) Sunday.
Bloodied from an early cut, Ashnault scored a takedown and near fall in the final minute to win, 10-7. He is now ranked No. 16/15/19, advancing four spots in The Open Mat rankings and one spot in the WIN Magazine rankings.
Despite a loss against No. 17/NR/18 Cody Ruggirello of Hofstra, junior Ken Theobold (Toms River, N.J.) maintained his ranking by Intermat and Win Magazine at 149 pounds. The 2014 NCAA qualifier is No. 19/NR/18 in the three polls with a 2-1 mark on the year.
The latest Scarlet Knight to join the national rankings is sophomore 133-pounder Scott DelVecchio (South Plainfield, N.J.). DelVecchio is 5-0 to start the season after winning the Clarion Open on Nov. 2 and taking down Maverick Passaro (Hofstra), 9-8, Sunday. The Open Mat ranked him at No. 17 at 133 pounds.
Rutgers continues the 2014-15 season on Saturday, Nov. 29 at the Asics/Journeymen Northeast Duals in Troy, N.Y. The Scarlet Knights will wrestle against No. 21 Oklahoma (11:30 a.m.), West Virginia (2:35 p.m.) and Buffalo (4:30 p.m.).
