WRES Ranked No. 20 by Intermat

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers wrestling team earned its first top-20 ranking of the 2014-15 season Tuesday, as Intermat tabbed the Scarlet Knights No. 20 with 24 points in its most recent Tournament Rankings.

The top-20 recognition was the first for RU since the 2012 season.
Rutgers (4-0, 0-0 Big Ten) began the year No. 23 with 18.5 points in Intermat's first tournament poll, but has climbed following early success in dual competition and in open tournaments. The Scarlet Knights most recently dismantled Hofstra by a 33-6 final on Nov. 16 at the College Ave. Gym and have crowned eight open champions to begin the season.
Four Scarlet Knights were ranked in the most recent individual Intermat rankings: No. 16 redshirt freshman 141-pounder Anthony Ashnault (South Plainfield, N.J.), No. 18 sophomore 149-pounder Ken Theobold (Toms River, N.J.), No. 5 redshirt junior 157-pounder Anthony Perrotti (Roseland, N.J.) and No. 8 redshirt junior 285-pounder Billy Smith (Wantage, N.J.).
As a team the Scarlet Knights return to the mat on Saturday, Nov. 29 at the Asics/Journeymen Northeast Duals in Troy, N.Y. RU will compete against Buffalo (11:30 a.m.), No. 19 Oklahoma (2:35 p.m.) and West Virginia (4:30 p.m.).
