PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Dec. 15, 2014) - Rutgers football redshirt freshman defensive lineman Kemoko Turay (Newark, N.J.) has been named to the Scout Freshman All-America Second Team.
Turay joins Steve Longa (2013) and Kaleb Johnson (2011) as current Scarlet Knights who have earned Freshman All-America honors.
Previously named to All-Big Ten freshman teams by BTN.com and ESPN.com, Turay was voted honorable mention All-Big Ten in a poll of the conference media. The end emerged as a pass rushing specialist with a team-leading 7.5 sacks during the regular season, ranking tied for seventh among Big Ten players and tied for third among freshmen nationally. He started off the season with two sacks in the opening-win at Washington State, including one on the final defensive stand late in the fourth quarter.
Turay also established himself on special teams with three blocked kicks to tie the nation's lead, including one on a late field goal attempt by Michigan to prevent a potential go-ahead score. He earned Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week for the efforts. His other blocks came against Howard and Penn State.
Before redshirting his first season at Rutgers, Turay led the state of New Jersey with 19 sacks in 2012 at Barringer, helping lead the program to their first playoff berth in 26 years.
