Rowing Tests Big Ten Waters

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- The Rutgers women's rowing team continues its spring season Saturday in Columbus, Ohio, with a Big Ten Conference double dual versus No. 19 Minnesota and No. 18 Wisconsin. Racing for Rutgers will begin at 9:10 a.m., as the Scarlet Knights open the day against the Badgers in the first session before concluding in the afternoon against the Golden Gophers.
"We are looking forward to racing in our first Big Ten competition," said head coach Max Borghard. "Our focus is on continuing to develop our athletes as we take on the challenge of seeing fast crews of the Big Ten."
The Scarlet Knights will race their First Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8, First Varsity 4, Second Varsity 4 and First Novice 8 Saturday in the program's first Big Ten Conference competition.
RU opened the season on March 28 at the Murphy Cup in Cherry Hill, N.J., where the Second Varsity 8 won its first heat of the day over Drexel, UConn, Lehigh, Mercyhurst and Pittsburgh. The First Varsity 8 registered a pair of fourth-place finishes on the Cooper River.
Both of the Scarlet Knights' opponents enter the weekend ranked in the CRCA/US Rowing Coaches Poll. Wisconsin will compete in its first dual of the spring season, while Minnesota enters after capturing two third-place finishes from its First Varsity 4 and Second Varsity 8 at the Oregon State Classic last week in Lowell, Ore.
