PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers women's rowing rising senior Shannon Haines (Fairfax, Va.) won two medals at the 2015 USRowing Club National Championships from July 15-19 on Harsha Lake in Bethel, Ohio.
Haines, rowing for Resilient RC, took silver in the Women's Open 1x Dash Grand Final with a time of 1:49.206 and earned bronze in the Women's Intermediate 1x Grand Final with a time of 7:58.697, just off the silver medal pace of 7:58.061. She wrapped up her competition with a sixth-place finish (8:28.789) in the Women's Senior 1x Grand Final.
"The 500 meter dash was at the end of the four-day event and it was quite hot all week. For Shannon to find the energy to pull off a strong performance is quite a feat," said 21-year head coach Max Borghard.
Haines, a 2013 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team honoree, represented Resilient RC last season at club nationals, taking sixth in the 1x final. The W.T. Woodson High School product rowed in the stroke seat on Rutgers' First Varsity 8 in five of six events during the 2015 season.
"It is great to see Shannon racing over the summer and racing fast," Borghard said. "She was sixth last year and to make the jump is a great accomplishment."
Also competing for Rutgers at club nationals was incoming freshman Laura Hegemann (Falls Church, Va.), whose Resilient RC quad finished seventh in the Women's U19 4x Grand Final in 7:37.856.
