BOCA RATON, FLA. - Continuing its week-long spring break trip, Rutgers softball fell to Fairfield by a score of 3-0 on Monday afternoon at the FAU Softball Stadium.

Four Scarlet Knights (4-16) registered hits in the contest, including freshman Taryn Atlee, sophomore Nicolette Anico, and juniors Rebecca Hall and Sierra Maddox. Senior Shayla Sweeney (4-4) suffered the loss in her fourth complete game of the season.

Fairfield (4-9) was led by Courtney Hankins with a two-run home run. Amanda Ulzheimer added a team high two hits in the contest. Destinee Pallotto (3-2) earned the victory for the Stags.

In the top of the first inning, Fairfield added a run on two hits to edge Rutgers, 1-0.

As the RU bats got off to a slow start, Sweeney allowed no further Fairfield runs to cross as she posted three consecutive scoreless innings to hold the edge at 1-0 going into the bottom of the fourth. Anico broke up the no-hitter in the Scarlet Knights' turn at bat, but RU was unable to diminish the deficit.

Sweeney held it a 1-0 contest posting two more consecutive scoreless frames.

After Hall was left on after notching a double in the bottom of the sixth, Fairfield's Hankins registered a two-run home run in the top of the seventh to set the Stags' lead to 3-0. The Scarlet Knights were unable to answer in the bottom of the frame.

UP NEXT
Rutgers remains on the road with a matchup against Colgate on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. in Clearwater, Florida. The Scarlet Knights will then take part in the USF Clearwater Spring Break Classic from March 17-19.
