UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – Women's golf is sixth with a 599 (298-301) total after the first two rounds of the 14-team Nittany Lion Invitational, played Saturday on the Penn State Blue Course. Freshman Lori Char leads four Scarlet Knights among the top 25, carding a 149 (75-74) to enter Sunday's final round tied for 19th in the 85-player field.
Char, competing with team's designated lineup for the first time, was minus two on par five holes with eight birdies and 19 pars on the par 72, 6,341-yard course.
"I had two solid rounds of golf today," said Char. "The course sets up well for me and I was able to take advantage of good scoring conditions. My goal tomorrow is to keep competing through all 18 holes."
Seniors Emily Mills (74-76) and Tatum Jackson (73-77), and sophomore Carrie-Ann Lee (78-72) are tied for 24th with 150 scorecards. Mills was minus four on par fives with five birdies, while Jackson was even on pars with 26 pars. Lee, competing individually, was minus two on par fives with 24 pars and four birdies.
Freshman Harriet Allsebrook also performed well on the Big Ten Course, and is tied for 32nd after posting a 151 (77-74). She was minus one on par five holes with five birdies, as Rutgers was minus seven on par fives through the initial 36 holes.
"Our underclassmen competed hard for us today," said head coach Kari Williams. "Carrie-Ann, Lori and Harriet all had great rounds going in the afternoon, which was really critical for keeping us in the middle of the pack. Tomorrow, we look to make a move up the leaderboard with strong play across our lineup."
Redshirt junior Ashleigh Greenham registered six pars to complete the team scorecard with a 154 (76-78). She was also one-under on par fives and is tied for 45th.
Host Penn State is first with a two-under 574 (287-287), one stroke ahead of second place Maryland. The Scarlet Knights are in front of Harvard, Yale, USF, Penn, Ohio, Columbia, Bucknell and Youngtown State entering the final 18.
Sunday's final round begins via a 9 a.m. shotgun start, with live scoring available on golfstat.
