Ali Garners All-America Accolades

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Sophomore forward Amirah Ali was named a Second Team All-American, announced by United Soccer Coaches Thursday night. Ali adds the recognition to First Team All-North Region, First Team All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Tournament Team accolades this season.
Ali paced the league in the regular season in total goals (10), game-winning goals (5), finished second in total points (23). The Voorhees, New Jersey, native had a hand in seven of RU's 12 conference goals as the Scarlet Knights recorded their best Big Ten finish in history.
The forward helped guide the Scarlet Knights to a program-record six overtime victories, netting four golden goals in OT and assisting another. Overall, the Scarlet Knights competed in an NCAA record of 11 overtime games, holding an unbeaten record of 6-0-5.
Ali's performance helped guide Rutgers to its best league finish in program history, finishing as runner-up for the Big Ten regular season title. The finish secured the No. 2 seed for RU in its fifth straight Big Ten Tournament. The Scarlet Knights qualified for their seventh straight NCAA Tournament, ninth in the last 11 seasons, and 13th time overall. RU also finished the regular season ranked in the Top 25 for the fifth consecutive year.
Last season, Ali was named the 2017 Big Ten Freshman of the Year Third Team All-Big Ten, Big Ten All-Freshman, and All-Region Second Team. She tied for the team lead with six goals and five assists in her first season as a Scarlet Knight.
The rookie made numerous statements for Rutgers, including the game winner in the 1-0 overtime win with No. 12 Ohio State. Additionally, she contributed three assists in conference play, including helpers on the game winner in overtime at Illinois and the tying goal in the draw at Nebraska.
Overall, Ali owns a career totals of 16 goals, eight assists, 40 points, six game winners, and five golden goals. The forward has started all 41 since her arrival "On the Banks" and has played 3149 minutes.
Rutgers has produced six All-Americans in the last seven seasons, as Ali becomes the 15th All-American in the program history.
