PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers football (1-6, 0-5) took a 42-7 loss to No. 20 Minnesota (7-0, 4-0) Saturday at SHI Stadium. It was the 86th annual Homecoming game for the Scarlet Knights, a tradition started in 1933.
Redshirt freshman Deion Jennings picked up three tackles-for-loss for RU in his first collegiate start on defense, the first such output for a Scarlet Knight since Quentin Gause at UCF in 2013. Junior Olakunle Fatukasi totaled a career-high 13 stops, while junior Tyshon Fogg had 11 tackles.
On offense, freshman Kay'Ron Adams scored his first career touchdown on a 5-yard run in the fourth quarter. Sophomore Isaih Pacheco rushed for 50 yards, with sophomore Eddie Lewis collecting three receptions after making his first start.
Minnesota broke a scoreless tie on its third drive of the game, using a nine-play drive capped by a 3-yard rushing touchdown by Rodney Smith. The Golden Gophers led 14-0 heading into halftime and added four touchdowns in the second half.
UP NEXT
The Scarlet Knights return home next Saturday to host Liberty in the first meeting between the programs on the gridiron. Kickoff is set for noon on Big Ten Network.

- Minnesota marked the final Big Ten opponent to make their first trip to Rutgers.
- Gil Greenberg, 97, served as the honorary captain. He is the oldest living Rutgers football letterwinner (1941-42).
- RU sported long-sleeved jerseys for the occasion, which were part of a collaboration between Rutgers Athletics and adidas. The Primeknit A1 uniforms emulated Rutgers football's tradition and heritage through retro designs, colorways and throwback graphics.
- The newest members of the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame were recognized in a ceremony: the 1919-1920 men's basketball team, the 1981 men's track & field two mile relay team, Todd Frazier (baseball), Fred Gruninger (athletic administrator) and Greg Rinaldi (men's lacrosse).
