
Five Named to NFF Hampshire Honor Society

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – LB Tyshon Fogg, LB Tyreek Maddox-Williams, DB Lawrence Stevens, LS Billy Taylor and DL Mike Tverdov all represent Rutgers football on the National Football Foundation (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society list. The Scarlet Knights have had multiple honorees in nine of the past 13 years and at least one student-athlete named in each of the last 15 years.
The list is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers, competed in their final year of eligibility in 2021 and saw action as a starter or significant contributor on the field.
TYSHON FOGG
Fogg finished his collegiate career with 293 tackles with 16 for loss in 49 games. The linebacker posted two sacks this past year, recording a season-high 10 stops at Penn State. He is a two-time honorable mention All-Big Ten selection with 70 tackles in 2020 after collecting 104, third-most in the Big Ten following the regular season, in 2019. Fogg also merited All-ECAC Defense as a junior. Originally from Asbury Park, New Jersey, before moving to Baltimore, Fogg is a four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree as a human resource management major.
TYREEK MADDOX-WILLIAMS
Maddox-Williams finished his collegiate career with 206 tackles, 14 for loss, nine pass breakups, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 52 games. The linebacker made 27 starts, collecting a career-high 12 stops in the 2020 finale versus Nebraska. From Philadelphia and a graduate of Timber Creek High School in New Jersey, Maddox-Williams is working towards a master's degree in labor studies and employment relations and was recently signed by the Los Angeles Chargers.
LAWRENCE STEVENS
A staple on special teams, Stevens played in 53 games for the Scarlet Knights the previous six seasons. He finished his career with 37 tackles combined between kickoff and punt coverage. That included 10 a team-high 10 such stops in 2021. A team captain in 2020 after staring as a walk-on, the Lawrenceville, New Jersey, native is a four-time All-Big Ten honoree studying labor studies and employment relations.
BILLY TAYLOR
Taylor took over the starting long snapper position as a true freshman and served in the role for a school-record 58 consecutive games. Joining the program during training camp in 2017, he was a nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy, which is given to the most outstanding football player who began as a walk-on and has shown outstanding performance on the field. Taylor also earned a spot on the Patrick Mannelly Award watch list as one of the top long snappers nationally. The Parsippany, New Jersey, native was a semifinalist for the 2020 William V. Campbell Trophy, helped Rutgers set a school record for net punt in each of the last four years and is a four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar as a financial analysis major.
MIKE TVERDOV
Playing for 45 games for the Scarlet Knights the past four years, Tverdov posted 130 career tackles with 19.5 for loss, 8.5 sacks, four passes batted down, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. The defensive lineman recorded four tackles in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl. He earned honorable mention All-Big Ten in 2020 after totaling 40 tackles, 10.5 tackles-for-loss and four sacks. Tverdov became the fourth player in program history to record three sacks in a game in the road win at Maryland. The counseling psychology major claimed a spot on the Academic All-Big Ten list four times and is a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
