PISCATAWAY, N.J. – WR Christian Dremel represents Rutgers football on the list of Burlsworth Trophy nominees announced today. The Trophy is given to the most outstanding football player who began his career as a walk-on and has shown outstanding performance on the field.
Earning a starting spot for the first time, Dremel leads the Scarlet Knights with 23 receptions, 294 yards and three receiving touchdowns through eight games. The Caldwell, New Jersey, native has at least one catch each time out, scoring in games versus Virginia Tech, Michigan and Wagner. He added a two-point conversion reception to a career-high six catches in the comeback victory over Michigan State.
Dremel collected the Mark Mills Second Effort Award as the most improved offensive player during spring practice. As a graduate student studying education, he is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
Rutgers (6-2, 3-2) is back home this week to host No. 3 Ohio State (8-0, 5-0) Saturday at SHI Stadium for Military Appreciation Day. Kickoff is set for noon on CBS. The game is presented by McDonald's.
