Scarlet Knights make their sixth consecutive appearance at the national regatta
WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – Twenty-five miles down Route 1, No. 7 Rutgers rowing heads to the 2025 NCAA Championships beginning on Friday, May 30 through Sunday, June 1 at Lake Mercer to compete with the best boats in the country.
The Scarlet Knights are competing in their sixth consecutive NCAA Championships after breaking an 18-year drought in 2019 with an 11th-place finish, followed by a seventh-place team result in 2021, a 13th-place finish in 2022, a 15th-place showing in 2023 in New Jersey, and a 14th-place result last Spring.
Last year, Rutgers' Varsity 4 raced to a 10th-place national finish in the petite final at the NCAA Championships, while the 2nd Varsity 8 (14th) and Varsity 8 (15th) raced in the C finals.
Competition on Friday begins for the Scarlet Knights at 10:12 a.m. in the third heat of the Varsity 8. The 2nd Varsity 8 will be in the first heat at 10:36 a.m. At 11:48 a.m., Rutgers will compete in the third heat of the Varsity 4. All times are approximate and subject to change.
The top three boats from each heat move on to Saturday's A/B semifinals. The rest move on to the C/D semifinals on Saturday.
This year's field features Boston U., Brown, California, Dartmouth, Fairfield, Harvard, Indiana, Michigan, Northeastern, Oregon St., Pennsylvania, Princeton, Rhode Island, Rutgers, Stanford, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas, UCF, Virginia, Washington, and Yale.

SCORING
The NCAA Rowing champion is determined by total points with points assigned based on the finish in each race. The first-place finisher in the First Varsity 8 will receive 66 points with each subsequent finisher collecting three fewer points – 63 for second, 60 for third, etc. The Second Varsity 8 winner will earn 44 points with each successive finisher collecting two fewer points (42 points for second, 40 points for third, etc.) and the Fours winner will receive 22 points, with the runner-up earning 21 points, third receiving 20 points, etc. Ties will be broken based on the teams' result in the Varsity 8.
FORMAT
The top three times of each heat will automatically advance to the A/B Semifinals on Saturday with the remaining boats moving on to the C/D Semifinals on Saturday.
The results of Saturday's A/B Semifinals will determine the field competing in the Grand and Petite Finals. The top three of each A/B Semifinal will advance to the Grand Final (places 1-6) and the other six boats will move to the Petite Final (places 7-12) on Sunday.
The 10 boats that comprise the C/D Semifinals on Saturday will vie for spots in the C and D Finals on Sunday. The top six boats will advance to compete in the C Final (places 13-18), while the remaining four boats will race in the D Final (places 19-22).
HOW THEY GOT HERE
The Scarlet Knights earned one of 11 at-large bids to the NCAA Championships, making an appearance at the national regatta for the sixth consecutive season.
Rutgers finished second at the 2025 Big Ten Championships, signifying its highest finish at the conference regatta under the 2025 Big Ten Coach of the Year Justin Price. RU won medals in all seven races while compiling 239 points, led by six silver medals by the Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, Varsity 4, 2nd Varsity 4, 3rd Varsity 4, and 3rd Varsity 8. Five Scarlet Knights from the Varsity 8 earned All-Conference awards for their efforts at the championship regatta. Hannah Heideveld, Lily Wood, and Lauren Andersen have been named All-Big Ten First Team, while Chiara Saccomando and Elli Arbogast have earned All-Big Ten Second Team.
Alongside Price as the Big Ten Coach of the Year, Beatrice Colclough was chosen as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Colclough was also selected to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team, joining classmate Femke de Witt. The Scarlet Knights combined for seven Big Ten Boat of the Week awards in 2025 while winning the Doc Hosea Invitational and the Women's Eastern Sprint team titles.
