Women's Soccer Draws UConn
Aug 31 | Women's Soccer
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's soccer battled to a 0-0 draw against UConn on Sunday afternoon at Yurcak Field. The Scarlet Knights (2-0-3) created opportunities late, but were unable to capitalize and settled for a tie with the Huskies (1-2-1).
In the match, goalkeeper Olivia Bodmer made another three saves and recorded the 19th shutout of her career, and third out of four matches played this season.
Chances were difficult to come by early, with RU registering just one shot on goal in the first half and UConn responding with a pair, both of which Bodmer was up to the task for.
In the second half, the match began to open up more, with both teams striving to create more chances and the Scarlet Knights forcing the Huskies to make another three saves.
In the 70th minute, Adela Vasakova was open on a breakaway and was taken out by the UConn goalkeeper just outside the box. After initially showing a red card, the referee overturned it to a yellow card, and the ensuing free kick was off frame.
Ashley Baran created a pair of late chances for RU, curling a shot around the Husky goalkeeper and just off the post in the 81st minute. Baran had another breakaway chance in the 87th minute, but UConn's keeper came off her line to make the stop.
Despite the flurry of late chances, Rutgers settled for its third straight draw and moves to 2-0-3 on the young season.
Rutgers is back in action on Saturday night at Providence, with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m. and the match streaming on ESPN+.
