Dylan Groff Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers defenseman Dylan Groff was named the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday evening.

Making his second career start, facing No. 12 Army, Groff was matched up against Army attackman Hill Plunkett. The week prior, Plunkett had been the Patriot League Player of the Week, scoring five goals. Groff limited his opportunities for quality shots, as he shot just 18% and he had three turnovers.

Groff had one ground ball and one caused turnover in the game. A native of Evanston, Illinois, the junior saw action in four career games across his first two seasons as a Scarlet Knight, moving into a starting role this year on close defense after two starters graduated.

Groff and Rutgers are back in action this weekend on the road, traveling to Stony Brook for a noon game on Saturday. That is followed by a three-game homestand, hosting Villanova, LIU and Hofstra.
