Softball Edged 2-1 At Maryland In Game Two

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Rutgers-Maryland softball series was evened at 1-1 as the host Terps got past the Scarlet Knights, 2-1, at the Maryland Softball Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The loss dropped RU to 10-10 overall and 1-1 in the Big Ten while the Terps improved to 11-10 overall and 1-1 in league action.

| STATISTICALLY SPEAKING |
- Sophomore Addie Osborne collected her sixth home run of the season for RU's lone run.
- Senior Mia Mitchell and sophomore Riley Hwang each had a double.
- Sophomore right-hander Kassandra Gewecke fell to 3-5 in the circle, allowing one run on four hits. Freshman Marley Caldwell tossed 2.1 innings of relief, allowing only one hit and fanning four. Junior Brooke Shifflett tossed the final two innings and gave up one run on one hit with a strikeout.
| THE RUNDOWN |
- The Terps took a lead they would never lose in the bottom of the first. Sami Woods doubled to right center and eventually scored on a Mariah Penta chopper thru the middle of the infield.
- Marley Caldwell retired the side on strikes with the bases loaded in the second, runners on first and second in the third and the last two batters of the fourth with one aboard.
- Addie Osborne took the first pitch of the fifth down the left field line and just inside the foul pole to tie up the game at 1-1.

- The Terps pushed across the game-winning run in the sixth on a sac fly. Lauren Caye led off with a walk, advanced to third on a throwing error and tagged up and scored on the fly out to left from Woods.
