#12 Women's Rowing Set For Big Ten Invitational

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The #12 Rutgers women's rowing team heads out west for the Big Ten Invitational on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19 on Lake Natoma in California State Park in Gold River, California.
Joining the Scarlet Knights at the Big Ten Invitational are #9 Cal, Gonzaga, #23 Indiana, Iowa, #17 Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Notre Dame, #16 Ohio State, Oregon State, Sacramento State, San Diego, Stanford, #20 UCLA, USC, #5 Washington, Washington State and Wisconsin.

Rutgers won eight races over the first two sessions and another five in session III for a total of 13 victories at the 2025 Big Ten Invitational, held last year at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida.
The Second Varsity 4 paced the Scarlet Knights with a win in each of the first two sessions, dominating No. 7 Brown in the morning by 11+ seconds and outracing No. 6 Tennessee by 5+ seconds in the afternoon.
Four of Rutgers' six wins in session I came against #7 Brown (V8, 2V8, V4, 2V4), while the Third Varsity 4 beat out Minnesota and Wisconsin and the Fourth Varsity 8 finished ahead of runner-up Michigan State by 13+ seconds.
The Third Varsity 8 joined the Second Varsity 4 with a win in the afternoon, beating out #12 Michigan by seven seconds
In session III, the Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, Varsity 4, Second Varsity 4, and Third Varsity 4 all won their races. The Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8, Varisty 4 and Second Varsity 4 all beat out #16 Duke, #17 Oregon State, #21 Indiana, and #24 USC. The Third Varsity 4 was victorious over #12 Michigan and #14 Ohio State.
The Third Varsity 8 was runner-up to #6 Tennessee, while the Fourth Varsity 8 was third behind Michigan and Ohio State.
Rutgers' Varsity 4 and Third Varsity 4 have each won Big Ten Boat of the Week twice this season.
The two boats picked up their first weekly awards following their performances at the Doc Hosea Invitational on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. In the morning session at Doc Hosea, the Varsty 4 placed second and was only 0.5 seconds behind the first-place boat from #3 Yale and outstroked #16 Penn by 14.2 seconds. In the afternoon, the Scarlet Knight Varsity 4 earned the victory, edging #12 Syracuse by 7.7 seconds. The Third Varsity 4, meanwhile, won both sessions at Doc Hosea. In the morning, RU outpaced #3 Yale by 49.5 seconds and #12 Syracuse by 52.5 seconds. Later in the day, the Scarlet Knights met up again with Orange and bested #12 Syracuse with a 54.2-second margin of victory.

The two boats again picked up conference honors following the Ivy League Invitational on the Raritan River in Princeton, New Jersey. Rutgers' Varsity 4 won its race against #6 Princeton and was neck-and-neck with #7 Virginia and #9 Brown with only a three-second margin between the three boats. The Scarlet Knights came in 1.692 seconds behind runner-up #9 Brown and 3.092 seconds behind first-place #7 Virginia. They also finished ahead of the sixth-ranked Tigers in the afternoon, coming together for a 10.892-second margin of victory. RU's Third Varsity 4A won both its races at the Ivy League Invitational. In the morning, the Scarlet Knights finished ahead of both #7 Virginia and #9 Brown coming in first place with a 14.052 margin of victory over #7 Virginia. They also placed first in the afternoon, crossing 18.344 seconds ahead of their B counterparts and 45.826 seconds in front of Cornell.

At Doc Hosea, the morning session saw RU's Third Varsity 4 A boat take first while the B boat placed second against both the Bulldogs and Orange. The Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8, Varsity 4, Second Varsity 4, Third Varsity 8 and Fourth Varsity 8 all had runner-up performances. The Varsity 4, Third Varsity 4 and Third Varsity 8+ all picked up victories over Syracuse in the afternoon.
Just down the road at last weekend's Ivy League Invitational, the Third Varsity 4 captured a win over #7 Virginia and #9 Brown and the Varsity 4 and Second Varsity 4 took home victories over #6 Princeton. Additionally, the Third Varsity 4 captured a dominant win over Cornell by nearly 46 seconds.
Rutgers women's rowing will travel to the Women's Sprints in Worcester, Massachusetts on Sunday, May 3.
