Seven-Run Fifth Inning Lifts Softball To 8-3 Victory Over Lehigh

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers opened up the Scarlet Knight Classic at the RU Softball Complex on Friday afternoon with an 8-3 win over Lehigh.
The Scarlet Knights trailed 3-1 after four and a half in the books, but poured in seven runs in the fifth to top the Mountain Hawks for a second time this season.
The victory improved RU to 24-25 on the season.

| STATISTICALLY SPEAKING |
- Sophomore Addie Osborne was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and classmate Riley Hwang hit 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
- Fellow sophomore Baileigh Burtis was 1-for-2 with a double and run scored.
- Redshirt sophomore Hailey Stripling delivered two RBIs.
- Senior Siera Hoekstra added an RBI base hit while junior Sam Rowher, Makenna Coleman, Eva Garofalo and Jayla Fuller scored in the victory.
- Freshman Marley Caldwell got the start and went 3.2 innings with two runs on five hits and five strikeouts. Junior Brooke Shifflett got the win to improve to 7-8 on the year, giving up one run on three hits while fanning four.
| THE RUNDOWN |
- Rutgers took an early 1-0 lead in its first at-bat thanks to back-to-back doubles. Riley Hwang went to right-center for her extra base hit and came home on the two-base hit from Addie Osborne to left-center.
- Lehigh took the lead in the top of the fourth with three runs on a trio of hits. Lola Fasano captured an RBI triple and Peyton Sward and Holly Lovett added RBI singles for the Mountain Hawks to go up, 3-1.
- The Scarlet Knights, however, put up a big fifth inning with seven runs on five hits and an error. RU loaded the bases for Hwang to knock in a pair of runs while Sam Rohwer scored on a throwing error from the outfield to put Rutgers into the lead for good. The inning continued with an RBI single to right from Siera Hoekstra and Hailey Stripling pushing across of a pair of runs on her single thru the circle and up the middle.

All Saturday's games have been canceled.

3 pm - Lehigh vs. Hofstra
5:30 pm - Hofstra vs. Rutgers
Rutgers will celebrate the Scarlet Knight Class of 2026 – Bailey Briggs, Siera Hoekstra & Mia Mitchell – prior to its game with Hofstra.
