#10 Women's Rowing Selected For NCAA Championships
May 19 | Women's Rowing
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 10 Rutgers women's rowing has earned a berth to the NCAA Championships for a seventh consecutive year.
The Scarlet Knights were one of 12 at-large bids selected to compete in the 22-team field at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville, Georgia on May 29-30.
RU's Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, and Varsity 4 boats begin competition on Friday, May 29, with flighted heats, with semifinals slated for Saturday, May 30, before the competition wraps up with championship finals on Sunday, May 31.
The Scarlet Knights finished second for the second-straight season at the 2026 Big Ten Championships. Rutgers' Third Varsity 8 claimed a Big Ten title as the Scarlet Knights claimed silver in its six other races. The Third Varsity 8's title marked RU's first Big Ten Championship in the event and fourth boat to win gold at the championships, joining the Fourth Varsity 8 in 2022 and the Third Varsity 4 in 2023 and 2024.
Five Scarlet Knights earned All-Big Ten Honors. First Team All-Big Ten went to Chiara Saccomando, Lily Wood and Elena Moran. Wood picked up third-team honors for the third-straight year, while Saccomando landed on her second all-conference team after earning second team last season. All-Big Ten Second Team honors went to Fallon DeWitt and Beatrice Colclough.
At the 2025 NCAA Championships, Rutgers placed eighth in its second-highest national finish in program history.
The Varsity 4 finished fifth in the grand final to record the boat's best national finish at the NCAA Championships. The Varsity 4 was just 2.3 seconds away from the program's first national medal, and was a minuscule three-hundredths of a second behind fourth-place Yale. The fifth-place finish also matched Rutgers' overall best boat finish at NCAA's, joining the Varsity 8's fifth place in 2021.
The Varsity 8 took second in its petite final for eighth place. RU was bow ball to bow ball with Indiana throughout the race, with the Hoosiers edging the Scarlet Knights at the 1,000 and 1,500-meter marks on the 2,000-meter course. Rutgers, however, finished strong to take Indiana at the line by a half-second.
The Second Varsity 8 finished in winning fashion by taking the C final race by 2.4 seconds over runner-up UCF. RU took the lead by the halfway point and never relinquished, holding off UCF and Pennsylvania.
