Truong’s Top-20 Finish Highlights Play at Boilermaker Classic

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Rutgers women's golf finished action at the Boilermaker Classic on Tuesday in West Lafayette, Indiana. Junior Joline Truong tied for 16th to highlight play for the Scarlet Knights in their first tournament of the season. Truong and redshirt senior Grace Lu (T22) both finished within the top 30.
RU tied for seventh in the 16-team field, finishing ahead of Big Ten programs No. 44 Indiana (T9th) and Iowa (11th). Miami (Fla.) captured the team title with a 10-under-par 854 (282-294-278), followed by No. 23 Ole Miss (-5) and No. 22 Mississippi State (+18). Miami's Scarlett Schremmer won the individual championship with a six-under-par 210 (68-75-67).
Rutgers tied for fourth with 162 pars during the tournament, as junior Judy Amano led the Scarlet Knights with 38 pars across her three rounds. Lu registered a 4.83 par-five scoring average, tied for eighth in the field.
"This was a good event for us," said head coach Kari Williams. "The field was strong and we held our own. We're right on the cusp of playing great; there are just little errors we need to eliminate down the closing stretch of our rounds. We'll take a few days to reset and practice before heading to Charleston."
ROUND 3 - TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1

Truong played strong on Tuesday, moving up seven spots to tie for 16th in the field with an even 72 across her final 18 holes. Her performance included birdies on holes seven, eight and 16.
Amano also moved up seven spots to tie for 36th thanks to her two-over-par 74. Lu followed with a three-over-par 75 to tie for 22nd. Senior Emily James tied for 54th, while sophomore Elizabeth Ryu tied for 78th to round out the team scorecard.
ROUND 2 - MONDAY, AUGUST 31
Weather: Sunny, temps in the high 80s, 10-15 mph winds
James was the biggest mover for Rutgers in the afternoon, jumping up 34 spots to sit tied for 32nd through 36 holes. James finished the second round with an even 72, adding birdies on holes 14, 16, and 17.
Lu wrapped up her day with a four-over-par 76, while Truong added a six-over-par 78 to move within the top 30.
"We had some good play going in the morning before the winds picked up in the afternoon," Williams said. "This is a challenging course and set up, but a great test for us. Our game management could be better tomorrow and we'll look to tighten up our focus for the final 18."

Truong opened the tournament with a blistering four birdies in her first six holes, which included back-to-back under-par performances on holes 14 and 15. Truong added a birdie on the fifth hole to finish with a one-under-par 71 in the first round and within the top 10 of the leaderboard.
Lu also enjoyed a strong opening round, contributing an even 72 in her first 18 holes of play. Lu rolled in birdies on 6, 7, 10, and 12 to highlight action in the morning session.
