Matt Walp

Matt Walp is in his second season on the Scarlet Knights’ staff in 2023. Walp, who spent the previous two seasons as the head coach at Archbishop Wood High School in Pennsylvania, serves as director of player engagement for Rutgers football. He also has 25 years of experience in the construction industry, including the eight with Caterpillar Inc.

Walp led the Vikings to eight wins in 2020 and 2021 competing in the competitive Catholic League Red Division. He was previously part of the Archbishop Wood staff that won six PIAA state championships, coaching both sides of the ball. That included defensive backs and linebackers on defense, and running backs and tight ends on offense.

In the business world, Walp had a successful career working with Foley Inc., one of the top Caterpillar dealerships based in Piscataway. He was responsible for developing relationships with CEOs and presidents of top companies within the global market for construction. Caterpillar is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction equipment and more.

Walp has 26 years of coaching experience with prior stops at Neshaminy High School and in the college ranks at his alma mater, Delaware Valley. As a defensive back for the Aggies, he led the team with 64 tackles in 1994.

Walp is the proud father of five children, daughters Myranda and Jordan, and sons Peyton, Anthony and Austin. He is supported by his significant other, Tina. Walp is a 1995 graduate of Delaware Valley.
