Jamichael Davis returns to Rutgers for the 2026-27 season as the most tenured Scarlet Knight on the roster and a second-year team captain, bringing experience, toughness, and defensive intensity back to the backcourt. A four-year player who will graduate from Rutgers next year, Davis was named team captain by head coach Steve Pikiell following a victory over Maine and has served as the steady veteran presence for a program in transition.
Davis averaged 7.5 points, 2.5 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game during the 2025-26 season while shooting 40.2 percent from the field. He also shot a career-best 35.8 percent from three-point range and logged a career-high 26.2 minutes per game, which ranked among the team leaders. He closed the season strong, scoring 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting against Creighton at The Crown, and recorded a career-high 21 points against Notre Dame earlier in the year. Among his other top performances, Davis posted 15 points with a team-high five assists against Michigan State, 12 points with six rebounds and three steals off the bench against Maryland, and a season-high six assists against UNLV.
“Jamichael is the heart of our team,” Pikiell said. “He’s a veteran leader who sets the tone with his defense, toughness, and unselfishness. We’re excited to welcome back a second-year captain and the most tenured Scarlet Knight.” “Loyalty means everything to me,” Davis said. “To be a four-year player at Rutgers and a second-year captain in this day and age is unique, and I have unfinished business here in New Jersey.”
