BJ Merriam returns to Rutgers after serving an academic year as the Senior Associate AD of Compliance & Internal Operations at Rider University. He is responsible for the oversight of compliance administration for the sports of men's basketball, men's lacrosse, softball, and wrestling.
 
While at Rider, Merriam was the Chief Compliance Officer for all 19 sports and served as a sports administrator for 9 programs. He was responsible for advising the Athletic Director on all compliance procedures and internal strategic initiatives, including the implementation of a compliance software and NIL platform. 
 
Merriam was previously hired onto the Rutgers staff as the Director of Compliance in August of 2019, and was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance in August 2021. In his prior role, Merriam managed all facets of the NCAA compliance program for select teams and liaison groups, and served as the secondary sports administrator for men’s soccer. 

His experience in the compliance field includes time spent at Bucknell, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), and Penn. Prior to his time in compliance, Merriam was a collegiate soccer coach at his alma mater, Susquehanna University, where he served as an assistant on teams that won back-to-back conference championships. 

Merriam was a four-year men’s soccer student-athlete at Susquehanna where he earned a B.S. in Business Administration. Upon graduation, Merriam received his M.S. in Education with an emphasis in College Student Personnel from Bucknell and is currently pursuing his PsyD. in Organizational and Industrial Psychology from Rutgers. He lives with his wife Kati and their three kids, Hudson, Emerson, and Lincoln in South Jersey.
