Rutgers Women's Tennis Downs Binghamton, 6-1

RU controlled the match from start to finish, taking the doubles point with sophomore Andrea Weckstein (Holmdel, NJ) and senior Carissa Sommerlad (Bradley Beach, NJ) picking up the win at No. 1 doubles, defeating Binghamton’s Justina Hakimi and Jenilee Brohm, 8-3. The No. 2 position saw senior Jennifer Hellier (Annapolis, MD) and freshman Ketevan Shmakova (Dover, NJ) take the victory over Amy Weissberg and Janine Sadaka, 8-6. Sophomore Kaitlin Link (Ontario, Canada) and freshman Alina Balasa (East Brunswick, NJ) took the win at No. 3 doubles, 8-6, over Kristin Jobe and Amy Linda.
Balasa picked up her third consecutive win at No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 7-6
(4) victory over Jobe.
Weckstein notched a win at No. 1 with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-1 win over Hakimi. Sommerlad
won her fourth match of the season at the No. 3 position against Weissberg,
7-5, 6-0. Link was victorious at No. 5 singles, defeating Linda, 6-2, 6-2. Shmakova
won at No. 6, 6-0, 6-2, against Brohm.
RU’s lone loss in the match came at No. 2 with Sadaka of Binghamton downing Hellier in three sets, 7-5, 3-6, 6-0.
The women will return to action, Friday, Feb. 28, traveling to Chestnut Hill, MA, to take on Boston College at 11 a.m.
