Rutgers Sweeps Georgetown in Regular-Season Finale

The Scarlet Knights notched victories in all three doubles matches, surrendering just 10 games to the Hoyas. At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Andrea Weckstein (Holmdel, NJ) and senior co-captain Carissa Sommerlad (Bradley Beach, NJ) beat Georgetown’s Lydia Bartell and Trina Snow, 8-1. Senior co-captain Jennifer Hellier (Annapolis, MD) and freshman Ketevan Shmakova (Dover, NJ) defeated Jordan Botjer and Monisha Ghia, 8-5, at the No. 2 doubles position. RU rounded out the doubles competition with a win at No. 3 doubles as junior Kaitlin Link (Ontario, Canada) and sophomore Helen Magomedova (Brooklyn , NY) downed Stephanie Sutton and Liora Gelblum of Georgetown, 8-4.
Rutgers was dominant in singles action as well, surrendering just one set
the in six singles matches. Sommerlad knocked off Bartell at No. 2 singles,
6-4, 6-3, for her 13th victory of the spring. Hellier beat Snow, 6-3, 7-5,
at the No. 3 singles position. Balasa won her 10th consecutive match on Sunday,
beating Botjer, 6-2, 6-4. Shmakova earned the win over Ghia, 6-3, 6-3, at the
No. 5 spot, while freshman Jill Markowitz (Forest Hills, NY) beat Sutton, 6-0,
6-0, at No. 6 singles. With the match already decided, Weckstein defeated Gelblum,
6-3, 5-7, 10-6, in a third set tie-breaker.
With the their regular season complete, Rutgers awaits the outcome of the
BIG EAST schedule to see if they have secured a spot in the BIG EAST Championships.
