Rutgers (13-7, 7-3 BIG EAST) enters the Championships on a five-match winning streak, all against BIG EAST opponents. In its final regular-season match, RU defeated in-state rival Seton Hall, 5-2, as it swept the three doubles matches and received key wins at second, third, fifth and sixth singles.
In singles, Andrea Weckstein (Holmdel, NJ) was occupied the top spot the entire season, and currently has a 15-15 record. Her first doubles partner, Ketevan Shmakova (Dover, NJ), has been one of the Scarlet Knights’ most consistent performers, posting a 15-10 record at second singles. In doubles, Weckstein and Shmakova are 15-9.
Alina Balasa (East Brunswick, NJ), Jill Markowitz (Forest Hills, NY), Helen Magomedova (Brooklyn, NY) and Lauren Edelschein (Medford Lakes, NJ) occupy the third-through-sixth singles positions. Edelschein enters the tournament on a six-match winning streak.
Boston College, currently ranked 56th nationally, is 13-5 overall and 2-2 in the BIG EAST. The Eagles and Scarlet Knights did not meet this season, but BC won the last match between the two teams early last season, 7-0.
