Penn Defeats Rutgers In Field Hockey Action, 3-0

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Penn Quakers received goals from three different players and defeated Rutgers, 3-0, on Wednesday evening at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, PA. With the loss, Rutgers falls to 3-6 overall.
The Quakers (4-3), who have won four of their last five games, scored first with 17:02 to play in the first half as Liz Lorelli took a pass from Kristen Gray. Penn added its second goal of the game with 10 minutes to play before half time as Sara Shelly netted an unassisted goal.
Rutgers managed four shots against the stingy Quakers defense, as Tiffany Klebez (Milford, PA), Jessica Roos (Mickleton, NJ) and Courtney Hudson (Churchville, PA) all tested Penn goalie Liz Schlossberg. The Quakers scored their third goal in the 56th minute and held off the Scarlet Knights for the remainder of regulation.
RU’s Kristin Van Rooij (Den Bosh, The Netherlands) played all 70 minutes and made five saves. Penn held a 13-4 advantage in shots and 13-5 edge in penalty corners.
Rutgers returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 25, as it travels to BIG EAST foe Villanova for a 1:00 p.m. contest. The Scarlet Knights will stay in the Philadelphia area over the weekend and conclude their three-game road trip at West Chester on Sunday, Sept. 26, at noon.
