Women's Tennis Concludes Season at BIG EAST Championships

TAMPA, FL – Rutgers finished in eighth place at the 2006 BIG EAST Women’s Tennis Championships following Sunday’s 4-2 loss to Syracuse. The Scarlet Knights concluded their 2006 campaign with a record of 14-9, marking the second winning season in the last three years under head coach Ben Bucca.
Syracuse won both doubles matches that we played and clinched the team point with an 8-6 victory by Ashley Lipton and Carolina Huighand at second doubles. Syracuse was forced to default at third doubles.
In singles play, the Orange won all three of its matches in straight sets, led by Wei-Ming Long at third singles. Syracuse defaulted at fifth and sixth singles to give RU both of its points.
Notre Dame won its second consecutive BIG EAST Tennis Championships with a 4-1 win over No. 2 South Florida. With the crown, ND earned the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. The Fighting Irish defeated Rutgers in the quarterfinals, 4-0.
