RU Wraps Up Play at Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. -The Rutgers women's tennis team wrapped up competition at the Princeton Invitational, playing Ohio State, Princeton, Yale and Buffalo in singles matches Sept. 16 and 17. The format for the weekend-long event saw each team play one another in doubles and singles with no team scores recorded.
On Sept. 16, the Scarlet Knights faced off against the Princeton and Ohio State in singles play. In the first round of action, Katherine Arlak (Leonia, N.J.) posted Rutgers' lone singles win, beating Princeton's Darcy Robertson in a third-set replacing super tiebreaker, 6-2, 5-7, 1-0. Lauren Edelschein (Medford Lakes, N.J.) also split sets with her opponent, falling to the Tigers' Joanna Roth, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4).
In the second round, Katrina Elder-Bush (Boston, Mass.) and Caitlin Baker (Altoona, Pa.) both posted wins for the Scarlet Knights. At first singles, despite being one set down, Elder-Bush defeated the Buckeyes' Angela DiPastina, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-3). Baker, a freshman, won her first collegiate match, defeating Ohio State's Sarah Kinning, 6-0, 6-2.
On Sept. 17, the teams played singles pro-sets instead of playing the best two-out-of-three sets. The Scarlet Knights faced off against Buffalo and Yale as Christine Tran (Centreville, Va.) won Rutgers' lone match of the day, cruising to an 8-1 win over Diana Toia.
The Scarlet Knights will travel to Providence, R.I. Friday, Sept. 29 through Sunday, Oct. 1, to compete in the Brown Invitational.
