PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Rutgers University women's tennis team won six of nine doubles matches and every player that competed picked up a singles victory as the Scarlet Knights competed in the four-team Brown Invitational this past weekend.
There was no team scoring of the event, but Rutgers posted impressive results against Temple, Boston University and host Brown. Both Boston University and Brown were regionally ranked last year.
"It was a great weekend playing against three top quality teams," said head coach Ben Bucca. "This is a big step up for our program and its showing the improved play from our players."
Senior Anela Dujsic (Mississauga, Ontario) won both of her singles matches and two of three doubles matches to lead the Scarlet Knights. RU won two of three doubles matches against all three teams.
Freshman Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) also won both of her singles matches and two of her three doubles matches for the Scarlet Knights.
"This tournament gives us a lot of confidence going into the USTA Invitational, a national caliber tournament."
The USTA Invitational will be held in Queens, N.Y. from Oct. 6-8.
