QUEENS, N.Y. - Several Scarlet Knights posted stellar results at the USTA Invitational, held October 6-8 at the National Tennis Center in Queens, N.Y. The tournament included 16 schools, with all the top teams from the region and some of the best squads from across the country competing.
Paulina Zaretser (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Christine Tran (Centerville, Va.) posted the most significant result of the weekend, as the duo made it to the main draw quarterfinals of the second doubles flight. It marked the first time in the five years of the tournament's existence that a Rutgers team has advanced that far into the tournament.
Katrina Elder-Bush (Boston, Mass.) picked up a pair of singles victories as she knocked off her competition from Boston University and Columbia, while freshman Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) continued her high-quality play with two wins in B flight singles. Zhang picked up victories over Syracuse and North Carolina State.
Each member of the team that competed picked up at least one victory during the tournament.
"This is a real high quality tournament," head coach Ben Bucca said. "It's a privilege for us to be in it and for the girls to be exposed to national quality competition."
The Scarlet Knights will wrap up their fall season at the ITA Regional which will be held at Norfolk, Va. October 19-21.
