RU Women's Tennis to Host Syracuse on Sunday

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. - The Rutgers women's tennis team will host Syracuse at the East Brunswick Racquet Club on Sunday, Feb. 25. The match is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
In their last outing, the Scarlet Knights (3-3, 1-1 BIG EAST) lost to Brown University on Feb. 18 after beating BIG EAST foe Providence College on Feb. 17. RU beat Providence 7-0, and was defeated by Brown by the same score. The Scarlet Knights' sole victory against Brown came from Polina Zaretser (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Katherine Arlak (Leonia, N.J.) at first doubles.
Zaretser is 1-0 in singles matches, and paired with Arlak, is now 2-1 at the top doubles position. The doubles team of Lauren Edelschein (Medford Lakes, N.J.) and Christine Tran (Centreville, N.J.) is 4-0 on the year.
Syracuse is coming off a loss to West Virginia on Feb. 18, falling, 5-2, to the Mountaineers. Sophomore Maria Vasilyeva picked up two wins, one at second singles, defeating Stacey Percival, 6-2, 6-0, and teamed up with Olga Votavova, to get their second doubles win of the season.
The last time the two teams faced each other was on March 5, 2006, with Syracuse coming out on top, 6-1. The last time the Scarlet Knights beat the Orange was on March 30, 2003, in a 4-3 victory.
Following the match up with Syracuse, Rutgers will take on Columbia in New York City on Saturday, March 3. That match is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
