PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers junior All-BIG EAST performer Tom Edwards (Caldwell, N.J.) was named the second-best baseball prospect in the New York Collegiate Baseball League by Baseball America in its summer review issue recently released.
The 6-2, 200-pound Edwards played with the Little Falls Miners in the NYCBL this past summer, hitting .299 with a team-best 12 doubles, two triples and three home runs. He also posted team-highs in runs scored, (24), runs batted in (29), slugging percentage (.496) and walks (30). Edwards played in 39 of the Miners' 41 games, starting 37 contests. The versatile Scarlet Knight infielder played shortstop, third base and first base during his summer season at Little Falls.
Edwards is coming off a breakout 2007 campaign at Rutgers where he hit .340 with seven home runs and 10 doubles for the BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament Champions. He earned Third Team All-BIG EAST accolades in his first season as the Scarlet Knights' full-time starter at first base.
Edwards was selected in April's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft in the 41st-round by the Texas Rangers, but elected not to sign with the club and comeback for his red-shirt junior season at Rutgers.
