Scarlet Knights Fall to Golden Eagles, 5-2

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Rutgers University women's tennis team dropped its second match of the season, falling to Marquette, 5-2, Saturday. The Scarlet Knights captured the doubles point, but lost five of six singles contest to the Golden Eagles.
Senior Katrina Elder-Bush (Boston, Mass.) defeated Erin Watkins 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 1 singles spot to get the Scarlet Knights (7-2, 2-1 BIG EAST) off to a quick start. However, Maria Calbeto of the Golden Eagles came back to defeat Polina Zaretser (Brooklyn, N.Y.) by the same score, kicking off a run of five consecutive victories and handing Rutgers its first BIG EAST loss of the season. Freshman Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) dropped her first singles match of the year, falling to Christina Ruiz in a closely fought three set match. Zhang is now 7-1 on the year.
In doubles, RU won two of three matches to capture the point. Zaretser and Zhang posted an 8-6 win over Calbeto and Christina Ruiz, while Elder-Bush and Christine Tran (Centreville, Va.) beat Watkins and Rachel Hush, 8-5.
The Scarlet Knights will return to action Sunday when they take on DePaul. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
