PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Rutgers senior Katrina Elder-Bush (Boston, Mass.) was named to the 2008 BIG EAST Women's Tennis All-Tournament Team, the league announced today. Elder-Bush, who posted a 2-1 singles mark and went 1-1 in doubles action, is the first Scarlet Knight to be named to the All-Tournament Team in the last five years.
"It was totally unexpected," said Elder-Bush. "I feel honored and blessed to be named to this team. It's a great way to close out the year and my career. The team played so well this year and this is just the icing on the cake."
Elder-Bush picked up singles victories over Kristy Borza of Pittsburgh and Lauren Little of Marquette, both at the No. 1 singles position. Her only loss came to BIG EAST Most Outstanding Player Kelcy Tefft of Notre Dame.
The senior also teamed up with sophomore Katherine Arlak (Leonia, N.J.) to win a crucial 9-8 decision against Marquette and the duo was also leading the Pitt No. 1 doubles squad before the match was stopped after RU clinched the doubles point.
"This is a tribute to Katrina's outstanding play and also the tremendous play of the program as a whole," said head coach Ben Bucca. "Katrina has been a dedicated athlete and consistent winner for us. It's only fitting that one of my first recruits to Rutgers is my first player to receive this wonderful accomplishment."
