SKILLMAN, N.J. - Senior Katrina Elder-Bush (Boston, Mass.) was honored with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association East Regional Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship, the ITA announced Monday.
The Ashe Award goes to a player who has exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.
"It was great when I got the news that I won this award, I can't even describe how I feel," said Elder-Bush. "The award is about being well rounded and not just about tennis, so it was an honor to be recognized for that too."
On the court, Elder-Bush went 15-8 at the top singles spot for RU. The senior was also an All-BIG EAST Tournament selection, the first ever under coach Ben Bucca. Her 31 total wins were second on the team and she earned Team MVP honors.
"This is an extremely prestigious award," said head coach Ben Bucca. "Of the 3,000 Division I women's college tennis players, only eight receive this award. It's a great testament to the fantastic career that Katrina has had at Rutgers. It's not only a great honor to her individually, but it also brings pride and respect to the Rutgers women's tennis program."
