Rutgers Competes Against FDU in Scrimmage

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers women's tennis team saw its first action of the year Wednesday, playing Fairleigh Dickinson University in a scrimmage with no team scoring. The Scarlet Knights were able to get many of their new players some valuable playing time in the round robin doubles and singles format.
"Everyone played very well and we just gave a really strong effort team-wise," head coach Ben Bucca said. "Polina (Zaretser) looked strong in her matches and we had three of the four freshman playing. Being their first matches they really came out and played some aggressive and confident tennis. I was pleased with how they looked out there."
The Scarlet Knights were originally set to host Temple, but a last minute cancellation allowed Fairleigh Dickinson to travel to Rutgers to take part in the scrimmage. The two rounds of doubles and round of singles action allowed both teams to face numerous competitors and play a wide range of competition.
Rutgers will next be in action from Friday Sept. 26-28 as the Scarlet Knights compete in the Brown Invitational. The event will take place in Providence, R.I.
