Rutgers Women's Tennis Sweeps Georgetown, 7-0

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Paced by a balanced attack in both singles and doubles, the Rutgers women’s tennis team won its third straight BIG EAST match, topping Georgetown 7-0.
The Scarlet Knights improve to 10-4 overall and 4-2 in the BIG EAST, while the Hoyas (3-12, 0-4) had their two-match winning streak snapped.
“This was a very strong start to the final portion of our schedule which includes five BIG EAST opponents,” said head coach Ben Bucca. “We look forward to a strong challenge this weekend as we play three quality league opponents on the road.”
The Scarlet Knights won all six singles matches, losing no more than three games in any single set. Sophomore Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) cruised past Caroline Kuehn, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Zhang has now won eight of her last nine singles matches. Junior Katherine Arlak (Leonia, N.J.) upended Maxi Philes 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.Both Zhang and Arlak were also victorious in doubles play.
The freshmen duo of Morgan Ivey (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) and Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) remained hot picking up wins in both singles and doubles play as well. Holzberg defeated Aileen Shea at No. 3 singles and Ivey cruised past Jackie Harrison at the No. 5 spot. In doubles, the pair won 8-2 over Brianna Kearney and Harrison.
Maryana Milchutskey (Holmdel, N.J.) and Caitlin Baker (Altoona, Pa.) wrapped up the RU singles sweep with wins at fourth and sixth singles, respectively.
The Scarlet Knights return to the court on Tuesday, March 31 against St. John’s. The match will get under way at 2 p.m.
