
Rutgers Tennis Competes At ITA Regional Championship

HANOVER, N.H. (Oct. 27, 2010) –The Rutgers tennis team competed at the ITA Women's Northeast Regional Championships over the weekend. The Scarlet Knights were led by strong play from senior Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) and junior Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) in doubles play.
“The doubles play of Amy Zhang and Jennifer Holzberg was strong and consistent throughout the weekend,” said head coach Ben Bucca. “They confirmed that they are one of the elite doubles team in the nation.”
The tandem of Zhang and Holzberg won three rounds before falling in the quarterfinals to Connie Hsu and Alexa Ely of Penn (8-4). The pair defeated Annie Sullivan and Silia DeFilippis of Yale (8-4), Prerana Appineni and Aylin Mehterof Stony Brook (8-2) and Adrienne Markison and Rachel Cantor of Quinnipiac (8-2).
In singles action, Holzberg defeated Dartmouth’s Sabrina Stewart (7-5, 2-0) before falling to Holly Cao of Harvard (6-0, 6-1).
The ITA Regional Championships wrapped up the fall season for the Scarlet Knights. The squad will start its spring season in February.
