Rutgers Tennis Blanks Towson, 7-0, on Spring Break Trip

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (March 14, 2010) – The Rutgers Tennis team (7-3, 2-1) defeated Towson, 7-0, Sunday as part of its Spring Break trip in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The contest marked the second-straight match that the Scarlet Knights have swept an opponent.
“This was the second match in a row we have won 7-0,” said head coach Benjamin Bucca. “The team is playing very good tennis right now. We are looking forward to a demanding match tomorrow, as we continue our Spring Break trip.”
Junior Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) moved to 7-2 on the year at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Aandria Carr of Towson. Freshman Michelle Green (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) moved up to No. four singles, dropping Towson’s Beth Daub (6-0, 6-0).
Leonora Slatnick (Austin, Texas) played at No. 5 singles, defeating Cassandra Ng, 6-1, 6-1. Caitlin Baker (Altoona, Pa.) played singles for the first time this season, beating Ali Frenbak (6-0, 6-1).
The Scarlet Knights swept doubles, as sophomore Jennifer Holzberg and Zhang extended their win streak to seven at No. 1 doubles.
The Scarlet Knights will be back in action Monday, March 15, facing off against Barry at 3 p.m. in Fort Lauderdale.
