Rutgers Tennis Splits Matches On Spring Break Trip

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (March 18, 2010) – Rutgers women’s tennis (8-4) split the final two matches of its spring break trip Tuesday and Wednesday, falling to No. 5 Barry, 6-3, and defeating No. 24 Nova Southeastern by a modified score of 5-2. Against the Sharks, heavy rain delayed the match until late afternoon.
Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) swept both matches at No.1 singles, defeating BU’s Barbi Pocza (2-1, ret.) and NSU’s Karolina Porizkova (6-0, 6-2). At No 1 doubles, the junior paired with sophomore Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) to notch a victory over Elisa Leeder and Justine Feaster of Nova.
Sophomore Leonora Slatnick (Austin, Texas) extended her win streak to six and moved to 3-0 at the No. 4 singles spot, defeating Mia Fiocca (BU) and Federica Longo (NSU).
At No. 6 singles, senior Caitlin Baker (Altoona, Pa.) defeated Barry’s Juliet Serabien, moving her record to 2-1 in singles play.
Rutgers returns to New Jersey, Thursday, March 25 at Princeton. Action begins at 2 p.m.
