Rutgers Tennis Falls At No. 32 Princeton, 5-2

PRINCETON, N.J. (March 25, 2010) – Despite strong play from junior Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) and sophomore Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.), Rutgers tennis (8-5) fell to Princeton (13-5) by a score of 5-2 at the Lenz Tennis Center Thursday, March 25.
“The highlight of this match was our first doubles victory over Hilary Bartlett and Taylor Marable,” said Rutgers head coach Ben Bucca. “The pair ranks No. 18 in the country and this win places Zhang and Holzberg among the elite doubles teams in the country. In singles play, Leonora Slatnick (Austin, Texas) continued to play very well, as she has won seven matches in a row. Despite the team’s loss to a strong Princeton team, we are confident heading into BIG EAST play.”
At No. 1 doubles, No. 80 Zhang and Holzberg moved to 9-2 on the season with a defeat of the No. 18 team Bartlett and Marable, 8-5.
At No. 3 singles, Katherine Arlak (Leonia, N.J.) upended Taylor Marable (6-1, 2-6, 10-7). RU also notched a win in the sixth spot with Slatnick picking up her seventh-straight victory with a win over Princeton’s Sarah Hoffman.
Rutgers returns to action Saturday, March 27 at the RU Tennis Complex against BIG EAST foe Pittsburgh. Action starts a 1 p.m.
